A new chair in the nursery

When I revealed my son’s nursery a few months ago, I noted that we were having trouble finding the Goldilocks of chairs for his room: petite enough to fit in his very small nursery, a hard-wearing performance fabric, and a lead time that wasn’t insane. If you’ve been shopping for upholstered furniture in the past two years, you know that the last requirement is not easy to come by. Well, friends, I finally found that unicorn chair from Coley Home.

If you’re not familiar, Coley Home was founded in 2019 with the goal of bringing consumers USA-made custom furniture with short lead times (like really short!). Coley Home had been on my radar from the very start for the nursery, however, after measuring every chair in the collection last year, none were quite right for the space, but then, two months ago, Coley Home announced lots of new additions to the collection. Immediately one chair, the Dibs Chair, stood out as being the perfect fit for the space. I love the arc on the top, the high back silhouette, and the petite but not too petite size. Oh, and did I mention that it was available to be fully customized, and ship in only six weeks?!

Coley Home has amazing patterns and really awesome colourful fabrics (you can order free swatches here), but a year or so into this parenting thing, I’ve quickly learned that for a nursery, neutral performance fabric is where it’s at. I ended up landing on Nomad in Snow, a creamy textured chenille performance fabric by Crypton. We used a Crypton fabric when reupholstering our vintage living room chairs last year and it has held up beautifully, so I knew it was a great choice for sticky toddler hands. For a subtle addition, I added the Luxe Velvet in White as piping to highlight the curve of the arms. Finally, I opted for legs in the Ebony finish. To help visualize how your chair will look, Coley Home has a virtual customizer feature that is very helpful.

As promised, our Dibs Chair arrived in six weeks and I was so excited to see it in the space that I singlehandedly carried it up the stairs and swapped it in for our placeholder chair. Never underestimate the strength that comes from the enthusiasm of seeing the perfect piece of furniture in its new home.

In the two weeks we’ve had the Dibs Chair in the room, my son has spilled milk all over it a few too many times and it cleaned up like a dream. We’re so pleased with the scale of the chair in the space and with how it brings another element of texture into the space.

As a note, we also added the Pom Pom basket for books and the Checkmate pillow and toddler blanket, all from Pehr to further make the room feel more cohesive (and add some much needed storage). I’m a huge fan of Pehr for fun nursery items and the softest and sweetest baby clothes.
